A good cause.

So I went to work on Monday and was talking to my boss about this woman she saw at a leadership conference.  Her name is Mother Maggie of Cairo and her story was so powerful I felt a little sad afterwards, not sad for Mother Maggie, but for the fact that there are some of us who give our lives to helping people, and some of us who live to help ourselves.  I mainly (sad to say) place myself in the latter position, and it is not something to be proud of.  At all.  While all of these thoughts are haunting my head, the Flight and Pattern store is launching and I am trying to see where the two meet.  I decided to try to make a small difference in my own sphere of influence.  So, for every purchase made in my etsy shop, 10% of the proceeds will be donated to unicef to help the mothers and children in Africa.  The famine going on in the drought-affected communities of Kenya as well as other areas is completely decimating the youth in the region.  So here we go, it's not much, but it's something.  More to come

Ok, yall...

Im shivering...it's live, like a snake! It's live! All the bags-except one are up!  Pinch me now...I hope you all enjoy it!  Here is a sampling in case you haven't checked out the real thing.

Getting it together

Getting things together for this soft Flight and Pattern launch has been a bit of a challenge.  There's a nice feeling though, when you accomplish something-little by little, day by day.  This weekend was a big one for me, we got lucky enough to find a much needed dress form at a popular retailer and it was on sale!  We snatched that baby up and started on the pictures right away, here is a preview...
It's kind of hard to see it in all it's glory here, but we really got lucky, being able to photograph these bags on a dress form instead of a person, meaning I don't have to beg my gorgeous sister to model them...she's a bit of a busy bee anyways...

TomChik Editions has moved...or changed!!

It's been a while since I have posted anything...in any blog...I have been designing fabrics for a while now, and just lately have been able to formulate and wrap my head around actually sewing with this.  That's where Flight and Pattern comes in.  Flight and Pattern was created as a design outlet, for all things unique and handmade.  "Handmade" is a trendy thing right now, but I believe there's power in it, in a way that you can walk around the street and see someone wearing something really cool and know that it did not come from a mass factory on the other side of the world...that product is unique in it's existence...that's what we are missing y'all!!!!!!  We have to be original, not mass produced, it's good for us locally as a country...right on...
